Isla Mujeres - A Day Trip from Cancún Worth Taking
The first thing to do when you arrive to the island is rent a golf cart.
It’s the easiest and fastest way to get around, but it’s also your ticket to freedom on the island.
If you’re in Cancun and looking for a quick escape, Isla Mujeres is the perfect little island to explore. You can easily take a ferry from Cancun and spend a full day enjoying the island’s charm before heading back in the evening.
We rented our golf cart from Rentadora Joaquín and we were 100% satisfied with them. With a golf cart, you can escape the crowds, explore at your own pace, and slow down to enjoy every moment without worrying about schedules or missing anything. You can circle the island multiple times, stop wherever you want and soak in the views on your own time.
For food, Rancho Capricho is a standout spot, serving authentic Mexican flavors that are perfect after a morning of exploring.
The island itself is stunning. Punta Sur offers breathtaking views, and Playa Norte is perfect for relaxing and soaking up the sun. Other things worth mentioning while you’re there include Garrafon Natural Reef Park, a stunning eco-park on the cliffs of the island where you can snorkel in clear waters, kayak, zipline over the ocean, relax in hammocks with panoramic views, or simply enjoy the natural beauty and vibrant marine life. Another highlight is the Museo Subacuático de Arte (MUSA), an incredible underwater museum featuring hundreds of submerged sculptures, a must-see for art and snorkeling lovers.
IS IT WORTH VISITING?
All in all, Isla Mujeres is a perfect day trip from Cancun, beautiful beaches, colorful waters, adventure activities, and the freedom to explore at your own pace. For me, Cancun felt way too noisy and busy, so visiting Isla Mujeres was a real escape, a chance to slow down, reconnect with nature and simply just enjoy the day. If you’re looking for a little getaway, this island should definitely be on your list.
